The Joy of Snow
We’ve had a snowstorm in Vancouver, and I love it.
I love it because it’s beautiful - spectacularly beautiful. I love the sound beneath my boots of the snow crunching. I love the light, the whiteness being reflected, the blue skies, or the overcast ones.
Whenever I am in the snow lately, I really do think that I should move somewhere it snows more. But that would probably change everything. I think part of why I love this snow so much, is that it is different. Change. I love it. Everything looks different, sounds different. There is an atmosphere of carnival in the air. Things shut down, people walk instead of drive, it’s quieter, it’s fun.
Speaking of fun, Seymour absolutely loves the snow. Watching him pounce and roll and leap, so filled with joy, how can I not love it? He is so cute, so happy, so funny! I love the snow the most when I am with him, in nature. The city in the snow I can take or leave, but the forest! The river! Once I get there I can hardly make myself leave.
So I will go for walks with him, milk this joy booster for all it’s worth until it’s gone. Because, in Vancouver, it won’t last long. Soon everything will change again. Tulips will push up through the ground, leaves will unfurl, and spring will arrive with, another all-time favourite…the cherry blossoms! Gah! I can hardly wait!!
If you are looking for a little joy boost yourself, might I suggest heading out into nature, no matter the weather. Dress for it (nothing worse than being soaked to the skin, rain dripping down the back of your neck), and head somewhere outside where nature makes itself known. You won’t regret it.
