Training Your Focus

Hey you, on the way to your dream, try to remember you’re already living it.

It is so easy to get trapped in a cycle of wishing you were somewhere else, doing something else. So easy to spend your days waiting for a different life, wishing things were different than they are. And while you’re doing that, you’re missing this one you’re living right now.

It won’t be different until it is, and you can’t get there from wishing here was different. If your focus is on the problems of now, I’m afraid you’re stuck here, my friend.

Where attention goes, energy flows.

When working with the body, it is, likewise, easy to focus on what is not working, on where the “problem” is. Clients rehabilitating from injury naturally focus on that injury, for example, or focus on the pain or tension. We have a knot in our body and we train all our attention on it, bringing it to the forefront of our awareness.

Try this, instead: if your right shoulder feels tense, or knotted up, breathe deeply and bring your awareness to the parts of the body that feel good, the areas where the breath moves freely. This alone will help that shoulder to relax. This will invite the tense area to join the rest of the body in relaxation.

And so it goes in life. We so often train all of our attention on what is not working, until it looms large and, like an eclipse of sorts, blocks out the light of all that is working.

This is it. This is it.

This is your life, right now.

Fall in love with your life, with all that you can, and keep that love alive. There is beauty right here, right now. Find it. This, right here, right now, is your LIFE. Don’t wish it away by focusing on what isn’t working, by longing for what is not yet here.

Stay focused, yes, have goals and desires, yes, appreciate what IS right now, even more.

Invite the future you desire by appreciating the present more than you thought you could.
